Main geophysical parameters accessible from KuROS data
From the data acquired via the 10 ° antenna (Low Incidence or LI antenna), the main geophysical parameters that can be extracted from the KuROS data are as follows :
- Directional spectrum of waves: distribution of the wave energy (or height) as a function of their wavelength and direction of propagation for the wavelength range [30-400] m approximately
- Short wave statistical properties (from 0.06 to 10m): shape of slope distribution, anisotropy, slope variance, parameters characterizing the gaussianity gap
- (Velocity and direction), the speed being estimated from the radar cross section via an empirical model, the direction being accessible directly from the analysis of the data
- Speed of surface diffusers
- Values of radar backscatter cross section (in HH polarization) by incidence and azimuth range
The method for estimating wave spectra is described in Caudal et al., 2014.
From the data acquired via the 40 ° antenna ("Medium Incidence" or "MI antenna"), the geophysical parameters that can be extracted from the KuROS data are as follows:
- Values of the radar backscatter cross-section (in HH and / or VV polarization) by incidence and azimuth range
- (Speed and direction), the speed being estimated from the radar cross section via an empirical model, the direction being accessible directly from the analysis of the data
- Speed of surface diffusers
